"It is a lovely book"-Julia Child, Author and Chef, Santa Barbara, CA
"Anyone who makes a habit of tuning into the Food Networkeither out of boredom, curiosity or good armchair cooking funwill revel in this cuisine and restaurant tour through six continents. It's an informative and inside look at world chefs (and their restaurants) that makes for an intriguing read for the non-cooking inclined, but a gold mine for those wanting solid step-by-step recipes and superb instruction (and secrets!) from top talent. The index catalogs each recipe and its origin for a cook's easy reference. But the pleasure reader will want to dive right into the stories of international (and American) chefs and restaurants. Bocuse d'Or and Lyon Dining This is a very short article on dining in Lyon and Bocuse d'Or.
The Captain Lindsey House Inn--An In for all Seasons Just steps off of Main Street in Rockland, Maine, proudly sits a true gem, The Captain Lindsey House on Lindsey Street. We have published stories and recipes from hundreds of hotels and inns around the world. There is one common thread that weaves through the most successful establishments every time. It does not matter if it is an old fishing shack on a remote island or the finest hotel in Paris, it is all about the people - the people who own and run the inns.
The Captain Lindsey House is very special. Built in 1832 by Captain George Lindsey, the present inn has been lovingly restored by the current owners, Ken and Ellen Barnes. You on a first name basis with Ken and Ellen, the minute Ellen meets your Cape Air flights in Rockland. They have spared no expense or detail to make their inn the most welcoming we have ever experienced. During your stay, Ken and Ellen will pop in mornings to make sure that you are comfortable and well fed.
Brother's Bistro - Fallbrook, CA Meets San Francisco What delightful discovery for two foodies in a new town--lucky us.
We always ask the same question. "Where is the best food?" We rarely hear the reply the first time.
"What kind of food do you want, plain or fancy?" they usually ask.
Then we say "It does not matter,'' please tell us where to find the most delicious tastes in town". They told, we went and they were right!
Do You Write What You Mean? Editing is a must when you write.
Even the best writers and editors need someone else to edit their work. It is very easy when you are typing quickly to misspell or use the wrong spelling of a word.
I did it a few weeks ago with an important e-mailusing their instead of thereand I know better.
Even though it is best to have someone else proofread your material, when that is not possible, be sure to proof it yourself. The best way is to read it out loud. That goes for e-mail too.
Culiniary Secrets with the Hills-March Menu St. Patricks Day Leftovers, Cocktails & Spirits, and Frozen Foods
By Maralyn Hill and Brenda Hill
Corned Beef Hash Cooking with Frozen Foods Drinks
This months focus is on St. Patricks Day meals, cocktails and spirits, and cooking with frozen foods. The March 23rd Eat Drink & Be Merry Blend radio program will focus on delicious, healthy, and earth friendly foods. Trying to cover a little of each, we will start our column with St. Patricks Day leftovers.
During my childhood, St. Patricks Day always called for corned beef and cabbage, which was not my favorite meal. What was a treat was corned beef hash with eggs the next morning or, just as good, grilled Reuben sandwiches made with corned beef, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing on dark rye.
Puebla, Mexico a World Heritage City When choosing to visit Puebla, I was initially drawn to it due to its reputation as the gastronomic capital of Mexico. Its cuisine is a combination of pre-Hispanic, Arabic, French and Spanish influence.
Two of its world-famous dishes are Chiles en Nogada (stuffed poblano chili peppers bathed in walnut sauce) and mole poblano (a regional mole dish).
As a result of my visit, I discovered some of its rich heritage and left with a longing to return and discover more.
Burgers & BBQ Party A selection of recipes from a variety of sources in order to achieve a great BBQ.
The Blue Ridge Parkway--Blowing Rock to Asheville The Appalachian's Blue Ridge Parkway is a breathtaking drive by itself. But, venturing off the parkway is where you'll find true treasures, from charming villages like Blowing Rock to the well-known city of Asheville. So, if you make the drive, be sure to stop at these delightful spots along the way. Also, there is much more to explore, as the Blue Ridge Parkway connects Shenandoah National Park (milepost 0) close to Waynesboro, VA with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park by Cherokee, NC (Milepost 469).
BLOWING ROCK
One of my favorites, Blowing Rock has the charm of a small village, together with benefits of delightful shops. Local artists and craftsmen display their wares, while antiques, family restaurants, intriguing bar & grills, and fine dining establishments are readily available. Accommodations range from cabins, to bed & breakfasts, hotels, and resorts.
The legendary Chetola Resort is about a 5 minute drive from downtown Blowing Rock.

Successful with Words -Character Development Fiction and non-fiction (true stories) need well developed characters and plots. If you dont know where you are going, your reader wont either.
You must know your central conflict in order to develop it. Readers want conflict and resolution.
Characters need to react in specific ways to the conflict of the plot and need to talk and introspect about how they act.
Non-fiction must be concise and accurate and you must know the market you are targeting.
Twelve Steps to Start Your New Year in 30 Minutes to an Hour a Day This month, we are going to start with twelve different steps to help you market your book. I know most of you would rather just write. Writing for marketing may not be your preference but it is absolutely necessary.
Because everyone is busy, Im suggesting that you take one step a week (if youve already done this, go on to the next). If one a week is too difficult, do one a month. If you want to take giant leaps, you might consider one every day. However, I dont feel that is realistic as it would interfere with thoroughly grasping each step youre working on.
Steps listed are aimed at helping you establish your identity, so as to market your name, book or magazine articles.
Lake Havasu City--Lakeside Resort Keeps Stepping Up the Pace
The adage that reads, "Go west, young man, go west" should be modified to advise going to the far west of Arizona to Lake Havasu City. This area is deservedly known as Arizona's beach resort city. The majestic Colorado River, at this point in its 1400+ mile journey, has been dammed to form Lake Havasu with an expansive 25,000 acres. The fast-growing city of Lake Havasu includes a mainland portion plus a manmade island, formed by dredging a stagnant stream and converting it into an integral part of the lake/river.
We first visited Lake Havasu City about 1999, and, by way of confession, were not overly impressed. Maybe we weren't looking hard enough. But, in 2008, through guided tours and other means, we saw first hand what a thriving small metropolis it is.
Nibbley's Cafe in Klamath Falls - Home of the Famous Oakcakes Nibbley's Cafe in Klamath Falls is home of the famous Oatcakes. Having tasted them for breakfast, we can see why they are famous. Debbie Caldwell and her staff do a phenomenal job.
When you walk into Nibbley's, you are in a warm, friendly atmosphere. As you enter the dining area, you pass wonderful pastry cases filled with treats that are difficult to pass up. Walls are adorned with a collection of quilts that tell many stories which Debbie is happy to share. Debbie is quick to say, "Do what you love, love what you do and the money will follow."
How difficult is it to order breakfast? In this case, it was incredibly difficult.
