Adventure Seekers, St. Pete Is The Trip For You

Home to America’s Best Beaches, a vibrant arts community and amazing outdoor experiences, St. Pete/Clearwater is a sunny destination (St. Pete holds the Guinness World Record for the longest number of consecutive sunny days in the world at 785 days) that has a lot to offer. It’s a place that does its own thing, one that invites you to come do yours.

As part of this two-day journey, you’ll be exploring some of the destination’s 24 unique communities, which was recently named one of Travel + Leisure’s Best Places to Travel in 2022, including St. Pete, St. Pete Beach – TripAdvisor’s No. 1 Beach in 2021 – and Tarpon Springs – known as the “Sponge Capital of the World” with its Greek heritage and charming downtown center.

Day 1 - Welcome!

9:30 a.m. – Pick-up IFWTWA from St. Pete, Hyatt Place Downtown St. Pete

10 a.m. – Glassblowing Experience at Zen Glass Studio

This flamework glass studio offers educational workshops and a gallery selling handmade glass pieces. Whether it’s a make-your-own wineglass, paperweight, ornament, you’re sure to have a memorable experience and something to take home too! St. Pete has been affectionately dubbed the “Glass Coast” with both the Chihuly Collection and Imagine Museum anchoring the American studio glass movement with many smaller studios sprinkling the area.

Fairgrounds, an immersive art and technology experience, is now open to the public. Billed as a “choose your own adventure destination,” Fairgrounds combines the work of 65 artists and technologists to create a world “celebrating weird, wacky and wonderful Florida.” The 15,000-square-foot space is housed at the Factory St. Pete, a creative destination home to artists’ studios and local nonprofit organizations, including Keep St. Pete Lit and the Shine Mural Festival.

11:30 a.m. – Explore Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks
Skip the international flight and be transported to Greece in the historic riverfront town of Tarpon Springs, FL, also known as the ‘Sponge Capital of the World.’ After the discovery of natural sponge beds in the early 1900s, Greek sponge divers arrived in Tarpon Springs, a community at the northern end of the St. Pete/Clearwater area, to grow the now-famous sponge industry. With the largest percentage of Greek Americans of any city in the U.S., Tarpon Springs has been preserved by generations of Greeks.

Located on the corner of Main St. and Douglas Ave, Kafe Racer is an innovative and full-service bicycle and coffee shop. Their mission is to combine amazing customer service and the newest cycling technology to help enhance Dunedin’s local atmosphere. The owner, Jan Heylen, is a Belgian native who made his career as a professional racecar driver. After moving to Florida and spending several years in the area, the opportunity arose to buy a local bike shop (formerly Dunedin Cyclery). Kafe Racer’s inspiration comes from Jan’s Belgian roots and lifelong love for bikes. The modern black interior features a collection of beautiful racing bikes and a
deconstructed Porsche to show off Jan’s career as a professional racecar driver as well as his passion for cycling.

3:30 p.m. – Visit Honeymoon Island State Park

Surrounded by water, there’s no shortage of bonding with nature in pristine settings. St. Pete/Clearwater is home to Florida’s most visited state park and the undeveloped beauty of Honeymoon Island. A natural barrier island, this state park boasts four miles of sandy beaches, nature trails, and abundant wildlife. Little Known Facts: Honeymoon Island got its name from a Life Magazine contest for newlyweds in 1939; couples won a two-week honeymoon stay on the island. Photos of these love birds can be viewed at The Rotary Club Centennial Nature Center. In addition to being a great escape, Honeymoon Island is also the launching point to Caladesi Island State Park.

The original Fenway speakeasy was located in the basement. This rooftop Dunedin bar brings cocktails to new heights. Drinks with family and friends will never be the same.

Its hometown downtown lies along Main Street and intersects with the Pinellas Trail. Antiques and Celtic wares honor its history and Scottish heritage. Of the St.
Pete / Clearwater’s 40+ breweries, downtown Dunedin is home to 7 of them (including Florida’s oldest craft brewery, Dunedin Brewery) in a 5-minute walking radius.
