Car-free Solvang and Santa Barbara
Post-Conference Press Trip
November 2016

Fellow IFWTWA member Frederica Dunn and I were delighted to be chosen to attend the post-conference press trip hosted by Solvang Conference and Visitors Bureau and Visit Santa Barbara.

Instead of driving in heavy traffic, we boarded the Amtrak train and experienced a relaxing Car Free ride to Solvang. We arrived stress-free and ready to tour Solvang’s Danish style town and wine country.

From traditional aebleskivers (round pancakes) to fine dining, Solvang has blended the older areas I knew as a child with modern hotels and restaurants creating a unique community all to its own.

A pleasant coach ride to the "American Riviera" town of Santa Barbara delivered us in town-center where our cozy hotel was filled with bikes to explore the city. Later we dined in a Spanish restaurant and enjoyed an evening walk through the wine district.

After a comfortable night's sleep, we found old-fashioned pancakes for breakfast before our train ride back to my hometown San Deigo. The 2016 Coronado IFWTWA conference offered us an excellent 3-day opportunity to discover quick Southern California getaways.
