Bio

Former travel editor of the Washington Post, I’ve been writing about my greatest enthusiasms — travel, food, and drink — for many years.

My work has recently been published in the Fodor’s, Frommer’s, Garden & Gun, Go World Travel, and others. I’m Senior Editor of IFWTWA’s Food, Wine & Travel magazine. I’m a member of the Society of American Travel Writers. I publish a Substack newsletter called Eat the World.

My interests include hyper-local food, history, light adventure, and sustainable food, drink, and travel operations. I’m happy to say I’m well-acquainted with the Caribbean, having visited eight islands. My wife and I have taken e-bike tours on three continents, and I’m an e-bike travel evangelist. As recent grandparents, we’ve become well versed in multi-generational travel.

As far as eating and drinking go, I’m a cocktail geek — I used to have a cocktail blog, but shifted to wine. I’m now in my second year of learning it. I review restaurants for Eat the World, and usually include food as part of my travel stories.

A resident of the Washington, D.C. area for over 30 years, I know the food, drink, and activities in the city and mid-Atlantic region very well.
